The Journey To Microsoft Teams
From a launch in March 2017, Teams has become the fastest growing app in Microsoft’s history. More than half a million companies already use it and according to a recent Spiceworks study it has overtaken Slack in popularity and usage in the corporate space.
What went unspoken in all this fanfare is that Skype for Business (S4B) is still the leader in the collaborative chat space.
Teams offers a huge array of features and functionality over S4B. As a platform it can shift your collaboration efforts across the organisation and involve suppliers and customers at the same time.
All of this means there is an active “pull” to get customers globally onto the Teams platform. This was further outlined in a Microsoft post on the journey to upgrade from S4B to Teams.

But Wait!
Within that post was this message – “In an effort to support smaller customers that may not have dedicated IT resources, Microsoft is assisting with automated upgrades from Skype for Business Online to Teams. Eligible customers will be notified of the upgrade through emails and Message Center notifications.”
For many clients who have are not S4B users this fine. Once they’re ready to evaluate and deploy Teams it will be sitting there ready to go. For others who have invested in S4B this is a challenge.
Communication will go out via the Microsoft Message Centre but if no action is taken it will happen on the date stated.
Good News!
If you want some more time to evaluate Microsoft Teams and stick with Skype a bit longer you can. Microsoft will allow you to postpone your upgrade and avoid the automatic migration.
